Lumbar Discectomy

Intense low back or leg pain from a lumbar disc herniation can limit every aspect of life. A minimally invasive lumbar discectomy relieves pressure on the affected nerve and restores comfort quickly. Our expert spine and pain physicians deliver this procedure with precision and compassionate care.

Why Choose Our Spine Experts for Lumbar Discectomy?

Minimally Invasive, Muscle-Sparing Technique

We use advanced retractors and microscopic instruments allowing surgery through a small incision, reducing pain and accelerating recovery.

Multidisciplinary Team Under One Roof

If imaging reveals multi-level damage or nerve involvement, our experts; including physical therapists, chiropractic physicians, EMG specialists, podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, and pain specialists; collaborate to create a complete recovery plan.

Detailed Imaging & Diagnostics

MRI review, X-rays, motion analysis, and EMG/NCS studies help us locate the exact nerve compression site before surgery.

Same-Week Appointments

Acute sciatica and nerve compression require timely care. We offer flexible daytime, evening, and Saturday evaluations.

Patient-Centered, Comfort-Focused Care

Our physicians explain every step of your procedure, ensuring you feel safe, supported, and confident in the treatment plan.

What Happens During a Lumbar Discectomy?

1. Pre-Operative Examination

We review MRI findings, nerve function, and mobility. EMG testing may be performed if nerve injury severity needs clarification.

2. Anesthesia & Positioning

You are placed under general anesthesia. The spine surgeon positions you safely to expose the affected lumbar level.

3. Removal of Herniated Disc Material

Using a minimally invasive approach, the surgeon removes the disc fragment pressing on the spinal nerve through a small incision.

4. Nerve Decompression

Once the damaged disc portion is removed, the irritated nerve root is gently freed, improving pain, weakness, and numbness.

5. Closure & Early Recovery

Most patients return home the same day. Walking is encouraged shortly after surgery to promote healing.
